Lighting Tech Tip: Common Lighting Fixes

When lighting doesn’t function well for the task at hand, it has a big impact on workplace comfort and productivity

You can help your customers solve three common problems that affect the lighting comfort of a facility:

• Correct glare: While we extol all the benefits of LEDs, they can sometimes cause glare – which is often distracting and uncomfortable for people working under the lighting. For indoor use, help your customers choose a shielded fixture, or ensure the LED chips in a TLED are frosted, to soften the bright light.
• Check light levels: To be functional, people need the right light level for the task they’re doing in a specific space. Over-lit and under-lit spaces can make users uncomfortable. Check the Illuminating Engineering Society’s (IES) lighting guidelines to find the recommended light level for the specific task or area.
• Match lighting with indoor temperature: Fluorescent lighting in unheated spaces won’t deliver peak performance. By upgrading to LED fixtures or tubes, your customers will have the full light output over a broad range of interior temperature. LEDs are effective down to -40 F and aren’t recommended for indoor temperatures that may climb above 130 F. Work with your customer to understand their facility’s temperature fluctuations.
