Tech Tip: Connected Thermostats

February 19, 2019 | Trade Ally Network NW

Connected thermostats provide building owners and operators with more control over a property’s HVAC system, and can help manage and reduce energy consumption and costs. Energy savings are based on how the thermostat is set-up and operated. It is critical to ensure the following prior to completing the installation:
• The thermostat schedule matches the schedule for the space, including nights, weekends, holidays, and breaks.
• The fan is set to auto during unoccupied periods and on during occupied periods
• The thermostat uses temperature setbacks during unoccupied periods
• The limited duration override feature is set to less than three hours

Savings increase for systems that serve spaces with frequent and longer unoccupied periods where the connected thermostat can schedule the unit into unoccupied mode more often and for longer periods of time.
